As I compose these notes for this edition of Safety Fast, it is ‘Drive it Day’. The FBHVC promote this event to show how many interesting historic vehicles there are still on our roads. I hope you took yours out to support this movement.
This last month has seen me busy with my K series Midget. First I removed the diff and replaced the diff gasket due to an annoying oil leak. I then installed a pair of uprated halfshafts to compliment my LSD. I’ll try and include a Technical article on this work in August’s Newsletter. On the 11th April I headed to Castle Combe race circuit for a Track Day with Chris Darwin. Mine was the only Midget there and it held its head high amongst some powerful, quick and expensive machinery including Porsches, Morgans and a 1947 Bentley. The K raised a few eyebrows. I’m back there again in July with MGoT when I will be joined by a number of other K’s too.
May sees another K weekend, this time in Yorkshire, but more of this another time.
Unfortunately I’ll have to miss MG Live this year which is a real shame. Last year was great fun although sharing a tent with Anthony Cutler and Tim Dalton on a night that had gales and heavy rain was an experience not to be repeated especially when Tim tripped over the guidelines and fell flat on his face on the way to the loo! Whilst MG Live is on this year I’ll be driving down to Lake Garda in my K on a 12 day tour with Scenic Car Tours as advertised in Safety Fast. This should be a great holiday and may appear in a forthcoming Newsletter.
The other event I went to recently was the Shelsey Walsh Breakfast Club meeting. Goodwood also now do something similar. A fantastic variety of cars were present and some real exotica. I fancy a Midget Register excursion to Shelsey or Prescott. Any takers?
Forthcoming events
Don’t forget MG Live will include Mike Authers Pride of Ownership, so don’t be shy, enter your Midget and give it a go. Also I’m told that John Day’s Midget will be on display in the Register Marquee.
The Midget Register Run takes place on Sunday 1st September 2013, starting at Toddington Railway Station and finishing this year at Chavenage House www.chavenage.com and the Rolling Road session at CCK in East Sussex has been confirmed for the 9th November 2013. Contact the committee for further details.
The photo is of a Lotus X1 spotted at Shelsey Walsh and which Westfield still produce kits for based upon a Midget. Three MGCC M/R members looking on too!
Until the next time, happy Spridgeting J
